Can I ship lithium batteries?

Can I ship lithium batteries?

You can ship lithium batteries, but there are rules for doing so:

  • Batteries have to remain inside the device they’re used for – they can’t be sent separately

  • Each package can have a maximum of two lithium batteries

  • Lithium batteries are vulnerable to fire, so it’s vital to keep them from overheating. Ensure your device is off and cannot be turned back on in transit.

  • Always ship your device inside a plastic bag. This prevents static interference and helps protect against fire.

  • Follow IATA regulations when packaging your device. Don’t pack lithium batteries near metal goods. Place electrical tape on all terminals to prevent overheating.

  • Check local regulations before sending lithium batteries overseas.

Note: Though shipping lithium batteries is allowed, shipping faulty batteries is a crime.
